Read Haggai 2:17
Hail can quickly destroy a field of ripe crops, knocking the grain to the ground and ruining the harvest. How thankful we should be whenever God spares our food from such damage! Even more frightening are plant diseases—like mildew or rust—that silently ruin crops in ways no farmer can control. These remind us that we depend on God’s mercy for every meal. That’s why Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
In the spiritual life, “mildew” can also appear. Just when ministry seems most fruitful, spiritual apathy, worldliness, or hardness of heart may set in. There may be no open sin, but the sincerity and passion we hoped for are missing. This shows us how much we depend on the Lord—not just for physical food, but for spiritual fruit.
We must pray that God keeps our hearts free from spiritual blight—like pride, laziness, or coldness in prayer. Only the Lord of the harvest can keep our work and our hearts alive and fruitful.
Prayer: “Lord, shine Your light on my life. Remove every spiritual mildew and make my heart and work fruitful for You.”
