Learning to Wait on God

Waiting on God is not as easy as it sounds. In fact, it is one of the hardest lessons a follower of Christ must learn. It often feels easier to move quickly, to take action, or to run ahead, rather than to stand still in faith. But there are times when life is confusing, when you honestly want to serve God yet don’t know what to do next.

In those moments, you may feel tempted to give up, turn back in fear, or rush forward without guidance. But God’s Word calls us to something different: to wait.

Wait in Prayer – Waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means waiting in prayer. Bring your questions and struggles to God. Tell Him your fears. Ask for His wisdom, and remind yourself of His promises. Like a child trusting a parent, lay your situation before Him with humility and simplicity.

Wait in Faith – Trust that God has a perfect timing. Even if the answer seems delayed, He is never late. His plans will unfold at just the right moment. To wait without faith is not really waiting—it is doubting.

Wait with Patience – Don’t grumble or rebel against the hardships you face. Don’t look back to the world or try to solve things your own way. Instead, surrender completely to God’s will. Say with a sincere heart:

“Lord, not my will, but Yours be done. I don’t know what to do, but I trust You. I will wait until You open the way, because my hope is in You alone.”

When we wait like this—prayerfully, faithfully, and patiently—we discover that God Himself is our joy, our salvation, our refuge, and our strong tower.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me to wait on You with a trusting and patient heart. Help me to lay down my fears, my plans, and my impatience at Your feet. Strengthen my faith to believe that Your timing is always perfect. Keep me from rushing ahead or turning back in fear. Instead, let me rest in the truth that You are my refuge, my joy, and my salvation.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
