Read Nahum 1:2
God’s jealousy is not like human envy—it is the pure, protective love of One who has claimed us as His own. Believer, the Lord is deeply jealous for your heart. He chose you before the foundation of the world and purchased you with the blood of His Son. He cannot bear that your love and loyalty would be divided between Him and the world.
He is jealous of your trust. When we lean fully on Him, He delights in it. But when we depend on our own strength, on the wisdom of others, or even on our good works, He is displeased. Out of love, He will discipline us to bring us back to Himself, the only fountain of living water.
He is jealous of your company. Jesus desires to be your closest companion, your greatest joy, your constant refuge. When we find more comfort in worldly things—or even in the company of others—than in His presence, His jealous love draws us back. Often, He allows trials to strip away false securities so that we will cling more closely to Him.
This holy jealousy is not meant to scare us but to comfort us. It proves how much He values us. If He guards our love so carefully, then surely He will also guard our lives. His jealousy is a shield that protects us and a reminder that we belong fully to Him.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving me with a jealous love that will not let me go. Forgive me for the times I have trusted in myself or clung too tightly to the things of this world. Draw me back to Your presence and keep my heart faithful to You alone. May I treasure Your company above all else and live with undivided devotion to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
