Read Psalm 36:9
There are moments in life when even the kindest words, the best advice, or the most sacred traditions cannot fill the emptiness within us. God allows such times not to abandon us, but to gently draw us back to Himself—the true and only Fountain of Life.
We often depend too much on people, possessions, or even religious routines for comfort. Yet, like Hagar in the wilderness, we only discover the living water when all other sources run dry. God sometimes removes our lesser fountains so that we might return to the Source Himself—Jesus, who satisfies every thirsty soul.
Religious activities and good works are valuable, but they can never replace the presence of God. Even holy things lose their meaning when they become substitutes for Him. The Lord longs for us to drink directly from His grace—to rely not on our own strength, feelings, or progress, but solely on what Christ has already done for us.
When our hearts grow weary or dry, let us run to the fountain again. There we find forgiveness, renewal, and joy that never runs out. To drink from this fountain is to live in the fullness of His love and to know that, even in lack, we possess all things in Christ.
Reflection for Today
Is there anything I am depending on more than God Himself for peace and strength?
Prayer
Lord, You alone are my Fountain of Life. Forgive me for trusting in lesser things that cannot satisfy. Draw me closer to You, and let my heart be refreshed by Your presence. May I drink deeply of Your grace every day until my soul overflows with life and joy in You.
Amen.
