The Blessings We Pray For

There is a unique sweetness in blessings that come through prayer. Hannah loved Samuel not only because he was her son but because he was the living proof that God had heard her cries. While Peninnah had children as ordinary blessings, Samuel was extraordinary—he was “asked of God.”

This is the beauty of answered prayer. The water that quenched Samson’s thirst at the well of prayer was far sweeter than any ordinary drink. So it is with us. When we pray for our children and see God’s hand shaping their lives, our joy is doubled. When we pray for spiritual gifts and receive them, they carry the fragrance of God’s faithfulness. When we plead for success in ministry and fruit appears, we see not just results but answers from heaven.

Even when answers are delayed, the blessing becomes richer. Mary’s joy at finding Jesus after searching for Him was greater because of the sorrow that came before. What we receive through prayer is not only precious—it is safe. Blessings gained through self-effort alone may tempt us, but those given in response to prayer point us back to God.

Like Hannah, we should dedicate to God what we’ve received from Him. Samuel was given back to the Lord because Hannah knew he was never hers to keep but God’s to use. Every blessing we win by prayer should return to God in thanksgiving and service.

Prayer
Lord, thank You that You hear my prayers and answer according to Your perfect will. Teach me to treasure every blessing that comes through prayer as a testimony of Your faithfulness. Help me dedicate all that You give back to You—for Your glory, not my own. May prayer be my joy, not my burden, and may my life show constant gratitude for Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
