Redeemed by the Lamb

In Israel’s law, every firstborn creature belonged to the Lord. Yet the donkey, being an unclean animal, could not be offered as a sacrifice. What then could be done? God made a gracious provision—the donkey could be redeemed by the sacrifice of a spotless lamb. If not redeemed, it must die.

This ancient command holds a deep spiritual truth. The donkey represents us—stubborn, unclean, and unfit to stand before a holy God. By right, we belong to Him, for He created us and sustains our every breath. Yet because of sin, we could not be accepted by Him as we are. There was only one way: redemption through substitution.

Jesus, the pure and perfect Lamb of God, took our place. He died that we might live. He bore the penalty that was ours, and through His sacrifice, the guilty have been declared clean. The Lamb died—and the sinner was spared.

Pause and let that truth humble you. We, the unworthy, are redeemed at the cost of heaven’s greatest treasure. The Son of God became our substitute so that we might never face the wrath we deserve.

Reflection for Today
Am I living in daily gratitude for the Lamb who took my place? Do I truly understand the price of my redemption?

Prayer
Loving Redeemer, thank You for taking my place on the cross. I was unclean and unworthy, but You shed Your blood to make me Yours. Help me never to take my salvation lightly. Let my heart overflow with gratitude, and let my life honor the Lamb who was slain for me.
Amen.
