Read Jude 1:20
True prayer is not a human performance—it is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Only the prayer that begins with God can rise up and reach God. When the Spirit places a desire in our hearts, that desire touches the heart of God and brings down His blessing. But prayers born of our flesh—selfish, cold, or proud—carry no power with Him.
Praying in the Holy Spirit means praying with fervency. Lukewarm prayers are like dead coals—they give no light and produce no warmth. True prayer burns with holy fire. It means praying with perseverance—not giving up when answers delay, but knocking at Heaven’s door all the more. The longer God waits, the deeper faith grows, until prayer becomes like Jacob wrestling with the angel, saying, “I will not let You go unless You bless me.”
It also means praying with humility. The Spirit never fills us with pride; He humbles us, reminding us of our sin and weakness so that we come before God with a contrite heart. Out of the depths, we cry to Him—and there we find His glory.
Lastly, Spirit-led prayer is filled with love and faith. It is soaked in love for Christ and for others, and it rests on God’s promises with unshakable trust.
When the Holy Spirit stirs these qualities in us, our prayers become fragrant before God—like precious incense rising from the altar of a surrendered heart.
Reflection for Today
Do my prayers come from self-effort or from the Spirit’s power within me?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, teach me to pray in Your power. Fill my heart with fervent love, humble faith, and steadfast hope. Keep my prayers alive with Your fire and free from pride or formality. Help me cry out from the depths and trust that You hear and answer according to the Father’s perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
