Read Luke 15:2
What a wonder this simple statement holds: “This Man receives sinners.” Jesus, who is perfect in holiness and purity, welcomes the broken, the guilty, and the lost. He is not just another man—He is the eternal Son of God, before whom angels bow in awe—yet He opens His arms to sinners.
This is no small act of kindness; it is the greatest display of love. That we might care for those like us is understandable, but that God Himself, the One we have sinned against, would come down, take on flesh, and willingly receive sinners—this is grace beyond measure.
And Jesus does not receive us so that we remain in sin. He welcomes us to forgive, to cleanse, to restore, and to transform us. He takes sinners from the pit and crowns them with His love. He rescues us from destruction and turns us into living testimonies of His mercy.
When Jesus receives sinners, it is not with reluctance or distance. He does not keep them at the doorstep of His kingdom. He opens wide the gates of His heart and brings them into union with Himself, making them part of His very body. That is the depth of His welcome.
And the good news is that this is still true today. Jesus is still receiving sinners. His arms are still open. The question is—will we receive Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for receiving sinners like me. Thank You for not turning me away, but for welcoming me into Your love, Your family, and Your presence. Cleanse me, transform me, and help me to live as a testimony of Your grace. May I never forget the wonder of being received by You. In Your name I pray, Amen.
