God Watches Over Us

Job, in his suffering, asked a strange question. He felt as though God was watching him too closely, as if he were some raging sea or a mighty sea creature that needed to be restrained. Job thought himself too small to warrant such strict attention.

Yet the truth is humbling: mankind is often more unruly than the sea itself. The ocean, vast and powerful, obeys its boundaries. Though it roars with waves and storms, it never crosses the line God has drawn for it. The tides rise and fall in perfect rhythm under God’s command. But humanity? We often resist God’s will, cross His boundaries, and ignore His voice.

The sea, in all its power, is constant and predictable. But people are restless and inconsistent—today obedient, tomorrow rebellious. Our nature needs constant correction, constant watching, and constant grace. Job’s question, then, reveals more about us than we realize: we truly do need God’s careful eye upon us every moment.

Instead of resenting His watchful care, we should be thankful for it. Left alone, we would surely wander into ruin. God watches not to crush us, but to guide us; not to restrain us harshly, but to protect us from ourselves.

Prayer
Lord, forgive me for resisting Your loving care. I confess I am more restless and rebellious than the sea itself. Thank You for watching over me, even when I do not understand it. Rule my heart for Your glory, and teach me to find joy in Your guidance. Amen.
