Read John 11:4
From Jesus’ words about Lazarus, we learn an important truth: sickness and suffering are limited. They are never without boundaries. God allows them only as far as His purpose requires, and no further. Pain and trials may press us, but the Lord says to them, “This far, and no further.” His goal is not our destruction, but our growth.
God’s limits are complete. He decides the time, the intensity, the duration, and even the results of every affliction we face. Not a single moment is outside His control.
God’s limits are wise. He knows exactly how much we can bear and adjusts every trial according to the strength and grace He gives. He makes no mistakes in measuring out the medicine our souls need.
God’s limits are tender. Like a skilled surgeon, He cuts only as deep as necessary. He does not afflict us carelessly but with compassion, always seeking our healing. His boundaries for our suffering are set by love, just as surely as He sets the boundaries of the seas.
This truth brings great comfort: the God who fixes the span of our lives also fixes the limits of our trials. We are always safe in His hands.
Prayer
Gracious Father, thank You that my trials and sicknesses are never outside Your control. You set their limits with wisdom, love, and purpose. Help me to trust that You know what I need, and that nothing I face will last one moment longer than You allow. Give me faith to see my pain as part of Your plan to draw me closer to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
