From Captive to Chosen: Mary Magdalene’s Story

Mary Magdalene’s life was once a living nightmare. She wasn’t just troubled—she was possessed by seven demons. Her condition was hopeless. No one could help her, and she couldn’t help herself.

But then Jesus came. Without her even asking, and maybe even while she resisted, He spoke with authority—and the demons had no choice but to leave. Every single one of them was driven out, never to return. In an instant, Mary went from torment to peace, from darkness to light, from chains to freedom.

From that day forward, she followed Jesus everywhere—listening to His words, walking where He walked, helping with her own resources. When others ran away in fear at the cross, Mary stayed. She stood near His suffering, watched where His body was laid, and returned early Sunday morning to be near Him again.

And because of her faithfulness, she was the first to see the risen Christ. He called her by name, entrusted her with the message of His resurrection, and made her the very first witness of the greatest victory in history.

Mary’s story reminds us: no one is too far gone for Jesus to rescue. He doesn’t just set us free—He gives us a new purpose, a new identity, and a new mission.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the grace that finds us in our darkest moments and sets us free. Like Mary, I want to follow You closely, stay near You in every season, and share Your good news with others. Deliver me from anything that keeps me bound, and make me a living testimony of Your power and love. Amen.
