Read Isaiah 59:5
A spider’s web is a perfect picture of a hypocrite’s religion. It’s skillfully spun, but it’s only built to trap prey. In the same way, false religion is designed to catch people’s attention for selfish gain—like praise, position, or personal benefit. It may look convincing, but it’s built on lies, not truth.
Like a spider, the hypocrite produces his “faith” from himself, not from God. He builds his hope, trust, and confidence out of his own works and self-made ideas instead of resting on God’s grace. But just like a spider’s web, this kind of religion is fragile—beautiful to look at but easy to destroy. One sweep of a broom or a gust of wind can wipe it away.
When God comes to cleanse His house, all false hopes and pretenses will be swept away forever. That’s why we must build our faith on something far stronger than a spider’s web—on the unshakable foundation of Jesus Christ.
A faith built on self will collapse, but a faith built on Jesus will stand forever.
Bp. Paul Solomon Maglaya
