Read Ruth 1:14
Both Ruth and Orpah loved Naomi and initially chose to travel with her back to Judah. Yet when faced with the reality of trials and sacrifices ahead, their hearts revealed their true devotion. Orpah, though affectionate, chose comfort and returned to her old life. Ruth, however, committed fully—not just to Naomi, but to Naomi’s God—demonstrating steadfast faith and unwavering loyalty.
True devotion to God isn’t shown in easy times or through mere words. It is proven when we remain faithful despite difficulties, loss, or the cost of following Him. Ruth’s choice led her into blessing and the lineage of Christ, while Orpah’s turned away from God and left her story in obscurity.
Let us examine our hearts today: are we content with outward expressions of faith, or do we truly cling to Jesus with our whole being, ready to follow Him no matter the cost?
Prayer:Lord, help me to follow You like Ruth—with a whole heart and steadfast faith. Strengthen me to cling to You even when the path is hard, and teach me to place Your will above comfort and ease. May my devotion be genuine, lasting, and pleasing in Your sight. Amen.
