Move the “ If ” to the Right Place

A desperate father once brought his son to Jesus. The boy was tormented by an evil spirit, and after the disciples failed to help, the father turned to Jesus with trembling hope and said,
“If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

There it was—the if.
But it was in the wrong place.

Jesus gently corrected him:
“If you can believe, all things are possible.”

The problem wasn’t in Jesus’ power—it was in the man’s faith. Jesus didn’t say, “If I can.” He said, “If you can believe.”
And that’s the same message He gives us today.

How often do we say, “Lord, if You can heal me… if You can restore my family… if You can provide… if You can forgive…”
But the if doesn’t belong with Jesus—it belongs with us.

God’s power has no limits. His willingness to help His children has no boundaries. What He asks from us is simple yet powerful: faith.

When we truly believe, we move from doubt to confidence, from fear to trust, and from impossibility to possibility.
Faith doesn’t make life easy, but it makes all things possible.

So tonight, ask yourself:
“Is my ‘if’ in the wrong place?”

Shift it away from Jesus and place it on your heart.
Say with confidence:
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
And watch how His power works through your trust.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that there is no limit to Your power or Your love.
Forgive me for the times I’ve doubted what You can do.
Help me move my “if” from questioning You to trusting You.
Strengthen my faith, especially when life feels impossible.
Teach me to believe that with You, all things are possible. In Your mighty name, Amen.
