Following the Shepherd

Sheep follow their shepherd without hesitation, and that is how we are called to follow Jesus. He has every right to lead us wherever He pleases, because we belong to Him—we were bought at the price of His blood. A soldier follows his captain, a servant obeys his master, and how much more should we follow our Redeemer, who gave His life for us.

To question His commands is to forget who we are and whose we are. Our duty is submission, not debate. Like Peter, we often want to know what God is doing with others, but Jesus’ words still ring true: “What is that to you? Follow Me.”

The good news is this—wherever He leads, He always goes before us. We may not know where the road ends, but we know the One who walks with us. His presence is our safety, His promise our assurance. The path may be long, steep, and filled with trials, but it always ends in eternal glory.

Sometimes following Jesus takes us into storms, hardships, or rejection, but even then, His love makes the journey sweeter than any comfort the world can offer. Better to walk through fire with Jesus than sit in safety without Him. He leads us, step by step, to the city whose builder and maker is God.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are my Shepherd and my Savior. Help me to follow You without hesitation, trusting that every path You lead me on is for my good and for Your glory. Whether in joy or in sorrow, in ease or in trial, let my heart always say, “Where You lead, I will follow.” Draw me closer to You, and keep me faithful until the journey ends in Your presence. Amen.
