Evening Wolves

In Bible times, “evening wolves” were known for being especially fierce. After a long day of hunger, they attacked more viciously at night than in the morning. Spiritually, this picture can describe the way our doubts, fears, and temptations seem strongest when we are tired, burdened, or discouraged.

After a long day of problems, financial worries, or hurtful words from others, our thoughts can become like howling wolves, whispering, “Where is your God now?” These “wolves” devour peace and steal joy, leaving us restless and anxious. But Jesus, the Good Shepherd, protects His flock. He is able to silence the wolves of unbelief and give His children rest in green pastures.

The devil and his schemes often attack us in the “dark evenings” of the soul—times of weakness, confusion, or sorrow. False teachers also act like wolves, hiding under the disguise of sheep but spreading lies that destroy lives. We must be watchful, for many are wounded by such dangers inside and outside the church.

Yet there is hope. The grace of God is so powerful that even the fiercest wolves—persecutors, deceivers, or hardened sinners—can be transformed by Christ. When the wolf becomes a lamb, lives are changed, and God’s glory is revealed.

So when the “evening wolves” come—whether doubts, fears, or false voices—run to the Shepherd. His voice brings peace, His presence brings safety, and His power brings victory.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, my Good Shepherd, protect me from the evening wolves of doubt, fear, and deception. When my heart feels restless and my faith feels weak, remind me that You are near. Guard Your church from false teachers, and turn even the hardest hearts to You by Your grace. Thank You that in You, the wolf can become a lamb, and I can rest in safety.

In Your name, Amen.
