Walking in God’s Light

God is pure light—holy, perfect, and without even the smallest trace of darkness. That’s the model set before us, and while it may feel impossible to reach His level of perfection, we are still called to pursue it. Jesus Himself said, “Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Think of an artist just starting out. He knows he can never match the genius of Raphael or Michelangelo, yet he still sets them as his standard. Without aiming high, his work would remain shallow and ordinary. In the same way, we may never match God’s holiness, but we are called to reflect it sincerely.

Walking in the light doesn’t mean we shine as brightly as God, but that we live in His light with honesty, sincerity, and purity. We cannot dwell in the sun itself—it’s too bright—but we can walk under its rays. Likewise, though we cannot equal God’s perfection, we can walk daily in His truth and strive, by the Spirit’s help, to become more like Him.

As one writer put it, “We may be in the light as God is in the light in quality, but not in equality.” That means the same kind of light—truth, holiness, love—guides us, even if not in the same degree.

And here’s the blessing: when we walk in the light, we enjoy fellowship with God and with one another, and we experience the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood.

Prayer
Lord, You are light, and in You there is no darkness. Teach me to walk in Your light with honesty, purity, and sincerity. Keep me from the shadows of sin and self-deception. By Your Spirit, help me reflect Your holiness day by day until the day I see You face to face in perfect glory. Thank You that in walking in Your light, I find cleansing, fellowship, and joy.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
